What is an Acid Peel?
Peels are probably one of the most frequently performed esthetics procedures today.
Chemical peels have improved with more types to choose from, enabling the professional to treat aging skin, improve acne, texture, pigment irregularities, sun damage, and even scarring. The skilled with optimal results.
Has been used for than 100 years to treat seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, warts, psoriasis and other conditions. It is found in wintergreen and birch bark.
Salicylic acid is lipid- soluble; Glycolic acid is water- soluble. This is very important in relation to how it affects the follicular, which is filled with sebum, a lipid. Due to these characteristics, salicylic acid easily penetrates into the lipid plug in a congested follicle.(it depends on the acid percentage).
Studies by Dr Albert Kligman report that salicylic is more effective than glycolic resulting in decreased comedones, quicker exfoliation and an accelerated improvement of the skin without excessive irritation. It does not increase trans epidermal water loss even though the proliferative effect of the exfoliant is greater. It is less irritating and does not alter skin barrier properties.
Lactic peels are gentle, safe, and well tolerated by most skin types. Treating thin, damaged, and aging skin with lactic acid not only removes the outer layers of damaged stratum corneum but will leave a more intact lipid barrier resulting in a healthier appearance. Adjusting the strength and duration of the peel allows for customizing each application. There is no downtime involved with lactic peels as they rarely produce peeling of flaking, post peel erythema, or inflammation.
This peel was developed specifically for treating pigmentation issues associated with darker Fitzpatrick Skin types ( of course, Fitzpatrick skin type three, type four, type five, and type six Must be prepared for acid beforehand, otherwise skin will become hyperpigmentation).
